Electrodeionization (EDI or CEDI) merges semi-permeable ion-exchange membranes with active ion-exchange resin beads placed between direct current (DC) electrical electrodes. As RO permeate flows through the cell, ions are continuously driven toward the anode and cathode, continuously regenerating the resin beds with electrical water splitting.
Because it operates without hazardous acid (HCl) or caustic (NaOH) chemical regenerants, EDI produces continuous ultra-pure water with zero chemical downtime, zero neutralization tanks, and minimal environmental footprint.
